We love our Irish Neighbor Half and Halfs around here. Never had one? A Half and Half is when you layer two beers (generally a Lager and a Stout) on top of each other. How is it done? Glad you asked:
Don't have a bar? Here's how you can do it at home with cans:
While the Irish Neighbor is fairly simple on paper, it's the technique that will take some practice or else the two beers will mix and not layer:
1. Fill your glass halfway with Narragansett Lager.
2. Top with your favorite nitro stout from either tap or can.
3. Wait for the stout to settle on the top.
4. Bottoms up.
As nitrogen is lighter than CO2, the stout with the nitrogen will float on top. The trick is that you need to pour the stout over the back of a spoon so that it doesn't fall to the bottom of the glass and mix directly with the Narragansett Lager.
