Weekend Recap: Sound Session, RI Strongman, And Cape Cod

We had a great weekend. With so much going on it's hard to fit it all in one spot. Sound Session finished on Saturday with a great carnival style parade. Sharks Come Cruisin' rocked the 'Gansett float while Clammie and the 'Gansett Girls danced away.

On a beautiful sunny day at Glen park Portsmouth, fifteen strongman competitors from throughout the Northeast readied to do battle with gravity. First event was the keg press sponsored by Narragansett beer. The LW and Teens used the 150lb keg and the HW's used the 190lb keg. Teen winner Bob D'agastino blasted out 5 reps while Andrew Malazzi wowed the crowd with an amazing 13 reps. HW winner Steve Bianchi did an easy 4 reps, knowing that was all he needed for the win, though he was clearly good for more. Next up was the tire toss for distance, using a 17" police car tire weighing 30lbs competitors had to throw it as far as possible. Farthest throw of the day was 45'1" by HW winner steve Bianchi.Chain drag and tire flip came next, a 550lb anchor chain had to be dragged 50ft and a 700lb tire for the LW and teens and a 900lb tire for the HW's. The fans came to life when the car carry was announced, one of the only amateur shows in the nation to have one. It's a highly modified VW rabbit cabrio weighing 500lbs that is hung over the Strongman's shoulders with straps. The LW winner was the only one to cover the 100' course in 39.2 seconds. The HW's had to add an additional 40lbs and cover the same course with Steve B. making a full pull in 52s. Final event is a strongman staple, the atlas stones. Large round cement stones are loaded onto a 52" high platform. Stones begin at 180lbs for teens and go all the way to 300lbs for the big boys. Dave Memont, LW 2nd place finisher made an amazing display loading forur stones in just 16 seconds!!!

Cape Cod was drinking their part this weekend and it all began with NESN's Dirty Water TV filming another episode at Trader Ed's. Grabbing a surf board and an 18 pack of 'Gansett also sounds like an awesome way to spend a day on the Cape. Just check out the photos of our fans.

To top it all off we hit The Box, 1119 North Main Street in Providence for the Extravagansett 2 on Sunday. There was great music from Sharks Come Cruisin', a grill going, and 'Gansetts flowing.
