Weekend Recap: Polar Plunge And OHINE

There's no better way to start off the year than a day at the beach. It may have been 30 degrees outside and freezing water, but New Englanders flocked to Matunuck beach for a polar plunge to benefit Multiple Sclorosis. Not to mention it happens to be a great awakener after a 'Gansett New Year's Eve party. Narragansett's Beer Fairy even took the plunge this year and we happened to get it on video. Just check that out above. After the swim everyone piled into Tara's Joyce Family Pub to warm up with some food and a few 'Gansetts. There was live music and a raffle featuring Gansett Gear, an acoustic guitar and a flat-screen TV. With the NHL Winter Classic on the bar's TV, it was the perfect start to the New Year.

For fans of Boston sports and most notably, fans of the Boston Bruins, 2010 will go down not only as the end of a decade, but will mark the day when one of Boston’s greatest sporting events took place at the hallowed grounds known around the world as Fenway Park. With 38,112 people in attendance, and the fickle New England weather shining some sun down on the cold souls, the Bruins took the game in OT which prompted a sing-a-long of Sweet Caroline. Around the stadium, your favorite beer was in full glory, showing support of www.OHINE.org helping gain petitions to keep the “Wintah Classic” at Fenway for good. We were out in full force at places like the Baseball Tavern, Eastern Standard, Autobahn, and Cambridge 1, collecting signatures, selling beer, and passing out some very cool “Vote for Fenway” t-shirts and “Shoot Here” placards. The crowds were out, Gansett was flowing, and people were looking for a good time which they undoubtedly found. As Dan Shaughnessy of the Boston Globe wrote, “It was a magical day in Boston sports. It was the day Fenway put on its snow pants and we all came home to hockey. At this hour, the Bruins stand alone as Boston’s team of the decade.”
