Surfers Healing's mission is to bring the therapeutic experience of surfing to autistic children. Once a year they travel to New England to run a camp for autistic children here.The event will be an afternoon of music, comedy, art done by children on the autism spectrum and we will be "surfing the runway" with a beach-inspired fashion show. From the Westerly Sun article: The Misquamicut Business Association (MBA) is pleased to announce the Misquamicut Springfest. Friday, May 13 from 5 p.m. through Sunday, May 15 at 5 p.m., at the Misquamicut State Beach in Westerly, RI. Springfest will include an Outdoor International Food Court, Rockwell Amusements with Ferris Wheel and major rides, Circle K petting Zoo, Pony rides, fireworks, a Classic Car Cruise, a NASCAR racing car, local and national entertainment including John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band as well as J. Geils, Beer and Wine Garden, and a Home, Garden and Vacation area. A fireworks display will kick off the celebration on Friday night. Admission is $5. Parking is $3.Children 3 and under are free.
TIMES: Friday, May 13 from 5 p.m. - 10 p.m. Saturday, May 14 from 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. Sunday, May 15 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
FOOD, BEER & WINE AND SHOPPING: Over 25 New England food vendors will be on hand to provide regional delights from lobster to sausage and peppers, fried dough, kettle corn and BBQ dishes. In addition, over 40 crafters and commercial vendors will sell their wares. From Henna Tattoos, hair wraps, face painting, handbags, T-Shirts, coin jewelry, and house wares. There is something for everyone in the family as you stroll the aisles. The Beer & Wine Garden on the Salt Pond at Paddy's Beach will feature local craft beers including Newport Storm, Cottrell Brewing Co., Berkshire Brewing Co., and Narragansett Brewing Co. Wines will be provided by Jonathan Edwards Winery and Newport Vineyards.
CONTINUOUS MUSIC: Headliners under the spacious Newport Fed Music Tent will include John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band, who will perform Friday night. Saturday afternoon brings the debut of Nashville's up and coming Erica Nicole plus complete performance of the Beatles album "A Hard Day's Night" by the Jeff Ross Band. Saturday night is John Ford Coley; half of the Grammy nominated "England Dan and John Ford Coley," whose top hits will keep people on their feet. Rounding off the evening will be a special performance by guitarist J.Geils who will be taking his turn at the blues and some of his own hits with the backing of Jeff Pitchell and Texas Flood. Sunday brings a local favorite, The River Gods, who will be opening for Tommy Cash, the brother of the late great Johnny Cash. In addition to performing his own top country hits, Tommy will also perform some his brother's hits, as well as tell stories about growing up with Brother Johnny. An array of local bands will keep the tunes flowing daily, providing non-stop music.
RIDES, GAMES AND FUN: On the midway "Rockwell Amusements"; known for their World Class Rides such as the Ferris Wheel, Scrambler, Thrill rides, Kiddie rides of all kinds for all ages and Games. "Circle K Petting Zoo" will offer children interaction with animals and Pony Rides. "Save The Bay" will have an educational marine "Touch Tank" for children. Little ones can enjoy a special obstacle course with "Kids on the Go". On Saturday from 12-4 pm enjoy a Classic Car Cruise showcase, an official NASCAR open wheel modified race car, and Fire trucks on display.
