The following is an announcement from the organizers of the JP Music Festival:
The first JP Music Festival, to be held on Saturday, August 20, 2011 from 1-7 PM, has announced a preliminary list of performers. The festival will be held at the Pinebank Field near Jamaica Pond, beside the intersection of Perkins Street and Jamaicaway in Boston.
Every musical act includes at least one resident of Jamaica Plain (or someone who works in JP), including:

• The Nickel & Dime Band with Rick Berlin
• The Old Edison

Additional artists will be announced in the coming weeks.
Keeping the festival free for the public to attend, JP Music Festival’s organizing committee have held a variety of fundraising activities in recent months, including fundraisers at James’s Gate, The Haven, Midway Café, and The Video Underground. To date they have raised more than $10,000.
The festival will also be the beneficiary of the 18th annual Art of July silent art auction, held this Wednesday, July 27th from 6:00-9:30 PM at Doyle’s Café (3484 Washington St.). Tickets are $15 and the auction will feature photography, paintings, pottery, and hand blown glass. Every year Art of July presents its Arts and Leadership Award. This year, Mary Hannon of Prudential Unlimited Realty will be presented the award from the 2010 recipient, John Tobin.

The festival is running a Kickstarter campaign, using an online fundraising technology, and has already raised more than $1,000 toward its $1,500 goal. Donations can be made here.

The event is being organized by Rick Berlin, the acclaimed songwriter and musician making music since the 1970s, Randace Moore, Executive Director of JP Centre/South Main Streets, and Shamus Moynihan, local promoter and booking agent, including for the Midway Café, the Jamaica Plain live music venue which has been presenting local and national acts since 1987. They, and all members of the JP Music Festival’s planning committee, are residents of Jamaica Plain.
The JP Music Festival recently formed a 501c3 non-profit corporation, which will manage the event this year and into the future.
