5. Cream Ale Wins

We had our fans vote for which ale Narragansett should brew next year round between Rye and Cream. Well the Cream Ale won and we get to look forward to enjoying this in 2012. For now, look forward to a smooth and refreshing cream ale to be released in March. Mark spent a day brewing the first batch with Brewmaster Sean Larkin at Trinity Brewhouse in Providence. Check out that video above. Can’t wait to taste and enjoy this one. Brewed with 2-row American pale malt, carafoam, nugget and willamette hops and weighing in at 5% ABV and 22 IBUs, this is going to be one tasty brew. Here’s more on Cream Ale: A cream ale is related to pale lager. They are generally brewed to be light and refreshing with a straw to pale golden color. Hop and malt flavor is fairly subdued. While cream ales are top-fermented ales, they typically undergo an extended period of cold-conditioning or lagering after primary fermentation is complete. This reduces fruity esters and gives the beer a clean, smooth flavor. Narragansett made a tasty Cream Ale throughout the ‘60’s and ‘70’s, and it would be great to bring a craftier version of such an easy drinking (but hard to find) ale style back to today’s craft beer enthusiasts

CREAM ALE: SOME PEOPLE LOOK FONDLY BACK ON THE AGE OF THE MILKMAN. FOR US, IT’S THE BEER WAGON. From the late 1800?s to the 1970?s, no Rhode Island parade was complete without the 'Gansett beer wagon, carrying styles from Lager to Porter —to a Cream Ale like this one, an easy-drinking ale with a smooth malt character. It’s a deliciously simple pleasure that reminds us of days gone by when the beer wagon and 'Gansett Cream Ale were both so popular ‘round here. Taste & Enjoy!

4. Gansett heads to Denver for the Great American Beer Festival

It’s the festival that started it all. The biggest beer festival in the world is held in late September in Denver, CO and Gansett was there this year. This was the first time in 30 years that 'Gansetts beer was present. Narragansett porter was at the first ever Great American Beer Festival back in 1982. This year Mark and the gang went there pouring our lager and fest. They also recreated that first festival with the 1982 Pavilion with as many of the original beers that are still present. We sent some porter for that part too. Click here to check out the photos we took while at the festival as well as the original 1982 program book.

3. Gansett in the Farrelly Brothers' film Hall Pass

Hall Pass is the newest film from the Farrelly Brothers released in February of 2011 and starring Owen Wilson, Christina Applegate, Jason Sudeikis, Richard Jenkins, Jenna Fischer. A married man is granted the opportunity to have an affair by his wife. Joined in the fun by his best pal, things get a little out of control when both wives start engaging in extramarital activities as well. Being from Rhode Island the Farrelly Brothers set the movie in Providence and included Narragansett beer. You notice the cast drinking our lager bottles during their nights out to Applebee’s and other bars. The movie is hilarious and we are still getting fans telling us they saw our beer all over the place. Check it out next time you need a new comedy to see. In fact, the Farrelly Brothers were quoted in their interview with the Weekly Dig saying Narragansett is their beer of choice. Here’s the exerpt: Last question: Is Narragansett the beer of choice for the Farrelly brothers? Peter Farrelly: Absolutely. CLICK HERE to read the full interview on DigBoston.com.

2. Troy Brown and Narragansett beer

Everyone knows Troy Brown, the three-time Superbowl Champion and the All-Time leading receiver for the Patriots, whose name is in the record books 7 times. But not everyone knows of his affiliation with Narragansett beer. Being an investor in the beer, he's done several appearances on our behalf. But in late 2011 he's been on WEEI Sports radio talking about Patriots Football on Mondays with Mut & Muloni and hyping a pretty awesome contest with us. Fans can vote for their favorite bar on our Facebook page. The bar with the most votes will win a party with Troy Brown and the Gansett Gang. The person who shares the contest with their most friends that voted for that bar will get to host. The above video explains it all. It's been awesome and we pick the winner next week. Now just about everyone knows of Troy Brown's affiliation with Narragansett beer. Can't wait for the party.

1. Possible Brewery Site for Narragansett beer

We went to look at this spot as well as a few others in 2011 for a potential Narragansett brewery. Mark recently took this above video. While we haven't yet locked down a definitive location, we did see a few spots that were promising. 2012 will be the year when we select the brewery location and begin build-out. Happy New Year!
