Gansett's 4th Of July Happenings

This is what summer is all about. Enjoying the good hours with friends and family having fun. From backyard cookouts to summer concerts, the summer wouldn't be the same without a Narragansett. Whether it's games like stump, corn hole or 4 square, refresh with a 'Gansett this weekend.

We'll be on Block Island on the 4th for a celebration at Poor People's Pub from 1-4p. The 'Gansett Girls will be there with games and prizes and DJ Blademon will spinning tunes. Better yet, 1st Place Winner of their Hot Dog Eating Contest gets to take home a sweet Narragansett surf board.

If you're staying on the mainland, the 'Gansett Girls will be at the Newport Blues Cafe for 95.5 WBRU presents Badfish, The Sublime Tribute, and special guests, The Rudeness. Show starts at 9pm.

In NH? Head to the Tamworth Lyceum for some rockin' music from EC and the Moonshiners, some free local food from White Gates Farm, some Narragansett Beer, and some community spirit! They'll be getting started as soon as the parade's gone by!

And don't forget about America's oldest parade. This is the 228th year for Bristol's famed 4th of July parade, and you don’t want to miss out. Being the nation’s oldest and longest standing Fourth of July parade, this town does well by honoring all the men and women serving our country. Watch as firemen, police and military march along with colorful dancers and entertainers.

The Fourth of July Parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will step-off at the corner of Chestnut Street and Hope Street (Rt. 114) and ends on High Street, between State Street and Bradford Street. Hope Street (Rt. 114) will be closed off beginning at 8:00 a.m., including Poppasquash Road.Beginning at 7:00 a.m., Chestnut Street, Naomi Street and Sherry Avenue will be close to traffic. A parking ban along the parade route goes into effect the night before the parade. The Parade Chairman for the 2011 Parade is Dick Devault. All inquires regarding the parade can call the 4th Celebration Line at 401.573.9453 or email Dick at paradechair@july4thbristolri.com.
