The late Guru from Boston hip hop legends Gang Starr once rapped "and this music ain't dead, so don't be misled by those who said that jazz was on its deathbed." New England has always had a rich affiliation with Jazz. With spots like Wally’s, Savoy Café, Paul’s Mall, and Storyville, hosting performances by the likes of Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, Louis Armstrong, it’s very hard to ignore the role New England played in the history of Jazz. With the taste in popular music changing, many people don’t know that jazz is still thriving, and that people like the guy I’m about to mention are blending their own ideas as to what jazz can be.

Enter Chris "C-Money" Welter. C$ as most people know him, started off in the widely popular reggae band John Browns Body, before moving to the West Coast after joining another immensely popular Southern California group Slightly Stoopid. In-between his hectic touring and recording schedule, C$ put together a collective of fellow friends/musicians, as well as collaborators he’s shared the stage with over the years. Having released his first live album a few years back, (a live recording from Matt Murphy’s Pub in Brookline), C$ finally released his follow up Family Business this past month. The album features a slew of incredible local musicians, as well as guest spots including Glove, Fishbone, John Browns Body and Slightly Stoopid. Family Business is a great mix of Jazz, Hip Hop, Reggae, and Pop - and sounds as fresh as Guru’s Jazzamatazz series. As CWG Magazine writes ""With C-Money’s music genius and smooth trumpet skills, he gives an inventive new sound to reggae and hip-hop that could likely pioneer a new musical genre"

"With C-Money’s music genius and smooth trumpet skills, he gives an inventive new sound to reggae and hip-hop that could likely pioneer a new musical genre" CWG Magazine

"Side projects can come in all shapes and sizes, and this time, horn player from the band Slightly Stoopid takes us on a sonic adventure through jazz, funk, and reggae music...G. Love brings his signature folk-meets-hip hop vibe, blends it with his own love for reggae and C-Money's urban-meets-coastal vibe for an incredible song...C-Money and all of the musicians have a ton of fun on this album, making it an incredibly awesome mix of music that is perfect for anywhere the sun is shining." thisismodern.net

"C-Money brings an assortment of friends along his smoke-filled journey throughout the 40-minute album. Guests include Elliot Martin (John Brown’s Body), Kyle McDonald (Slightly Stoopid), Angelo Moore and Dre Gipson (Fishbone), Kevin Kinsella (10 Ft. Ganja Plant) and G. Love...Family Business is best served on a hot and humid day, with no air conditioning, while the sweat sticks you to your chair. It will at least cool you down a degree or two." The Keystone
